The Mendenhall raft trip, which begins on Mendenhall Lake just below the renowned Mendenhall Glacier, is an exciting, yet mild, whitewater adventure that is enjoyed by visitors of all ages. From the lake, just prior to the downriver journey, rafters will enjoy awesome views of the 12-mile-long (19 km) Mendenhall Glacier, whose face rises 150 feet above the water, its medial and terminal moraines, and nearby towering peaks.  Rafters can photograph icebergs floating in the lake.
     Only about 1 mile (1.6 km) of the 6-mile (9 km) Mendenhall River raft trip contains whitewater. In this stretch are several exciting Class II-III rapids including Scott's Iatola Hola, Tourist Trap, and Pin Ball Alley. Rafters spend the remainder of the trip relaxing and enjoying the spectacular mountains that tower nearly 7,000 feet above the river. Take-out for the Mendenhall occurs is in the tidal waters near Juneau International Airport.
      Midway on the trip guests is treated to an Alaska-style shoreline snack featuring smoked salmon, reindeer sausage, cheese, and beverages. Mendenhall's outfitter also provides rain suits, life jackets and rubber boots.
