The Nenana River, on the eastern boundary of Alaska's magnificent Denali National Park, is fed from the Yannert and Nenana glaciers of the park's 20,320-foot Mt. McKinley. The Nenana's proximity to Anchorage and Fairbanks, its beautiful scenery, and its exciting whitewater make it one of Alaska's favorite rafting trips.
The most popular stretch of the Nenana is canyon section near the George Parks Highway between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Anyone age eight and above can enjoy the exciting waves and holes of the river's numerous rapids. Outfitters offer very frequent two-hour and four-hour trips and all day trips ranging from 10 to 15 miles (16 to 24 km).
Denali National Park is known for its abundant wildlife. Dall sheep, moose, caribou, grizzly bears, wolves, and eagles are sometimes seen during half- and one-day raft trips are frequently seen on multiday trips.
