The Kings River is the largest of the Sierra's many fine whitewater rivers. It is free flowing during its westward descent through Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Forest until it enters Pine Flat Lake, nearly due east of Fresno.
Rafters generally find the King's best whitewater from early May through June. During peak springtime runoff, more than 25 rapids, many in the Class III-IV range, provide a thrilling intermediate-advanced run with numerous large waves and fast currents.

Kings River Family Rafting
Although considerably less intense during July and August, the Kings still offers fine whitewater and beautiful mountain canyon scenery. From late June until season end (depending on the amount of spring runoff), the Kings calms to a lively Class II-III river. Families with children as young as eight years may enjoy the summertime whitewaters of the King.
