| The
Royal Gorge is the Arkansas River's most spectacular whitewater
canyon trip. Nearly 1,000 feet below the world's highest suspension
bridge, steep pool drops, large waves, and numerous demanding Class
IV-IV+ rapids—Sunshine Falls, Sledgehammer, the Narrows, Wall
Slammer, Boateater, and Corner Pocket—create a truly extraordinary
whitewater trip. The overall canyon river experience is made even
more memorable by the historic river-level railroad, an inclined
railway, and the remnants of the early-century water flume.
Beginning raft trips on the last few miles of the more mellow
Cotopaxi-Parkdale section satisfies most outfitters, who require
previous whitewater experience for the Royal Gorge trip.
