The upper Gunnison River,
created by the merger of the Taylor and East rivers, offers very
easy Class I-II waters just north of Gunnison. The river, which
parallels Colorado Route 135 from Almont to Gunnison, passes through
farmlands and rolling hills graced with large cottonwood trees.
Although
outfitters promote the upper Gunnison as an ideal introductory trip
for families with young children and senior, everyone will enjoy the
pastoral beauty of the Gunnison Valley.
