One of Quebec's newest
whitewater rafting trips is on the final 15 miles (24 km) of the
Batiscan River, nearly midway between Montreal and the provincial
capital. The Batiscan, a large-volume river, features magnificent
wilderness scenery and high-water action with a seemingly endless
series of giant waves. Many Class III-IV+ rapids, including Les
Trois Roches and Chute Pierre Antoine, offer a challenging descent
for both novice and expert rafters alike.
The
Batiscan flows southward from the Reserve Founique de Portneuf (Portneuf
Provincial Reserve) to its confluence with the St. Lawrence River
near the Township of Batiscan. Access is easy, the four- to
five-hour trip is exciting, and the memories are forever. While the
best rafting is during May and June, outfitters are sometimes able
to run trips from late April to early August.
