The Sacandaga River, in the scenic Lake George and Saratoga regions of the southern Adirondack Mountains, offers an inexpensive introduction to whitewater rafting for the whole family. Class II-III rapids alternating with fast-moving flatwater provide the perfect environment to learn basic paddling techniques. The river's wild and secluded corridor normally provides ample opportunity for swimming and splashing on warm summer days.
The Sacandaga rafting adventure is a two-hour trip covering about 3.5 miles (5.5 km) between Stewart's Dam in the town of Hadley and the Sacandaga’s confluence with the Hudson River. Controlled water releases by Niagara-Mohawk provide sufficient water levels for daily rafting from Memorial Day until Columbus Day.
Sacandaga's professional outfitters offer hourly trips each day during the summer and can almost always accommodate walk-in customers. Fall trips are run on weekends or by reservation.
