The Selway River canyon, in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area near the Idaho-Montana border, is one of the premier multiday river experiences in the northern Rockies. Unlike the Salmon River with numerous daily trips, rafting access to the remote and secluded Selway is very limited. The U.S. Forest Service issues only one launch per day during the seventy-eight day rafting season. Only sixteen of these launch dates are available for guided commercial rafting trips.

For those fortunate enough to raft the Selway, one of the first rivers protected by the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, the river experience is unforgettable. For up to five days, rafters navigate exciting Class II-IV rapids, such as Galloping Gertie, Washer Woman, Goat Creek, Ham, Double Drop, Ladle, Puzzle Creek, and Wolf Creek. Take-out is just above the Class VI Selway Falls. In the quiet pools between the exciting whitewater, much time remains to enjoy the varied wildlife and forest scenery.
