Just an hour's drive east
of Yellowstone National Park, the beautiful Shoshone River offers
visitors a perfect introduction to whitewater rafting. Shoshone's
easy Class II-III rapids, adjacent to Wyoming routes 14 and 16 in
the beautiful Red Rock Canyon, can be enjoyed by almost anyone.
Seniors and families with small children are welcome; as scheduled
releases from the Buffalo River Reservoir make water levels very
predictable.
Outfitters
offer daily two-hour trips on a 6-mile (9.5-km) section of the river
and half-day trips on a 13-mile (21-km) section. Both trips traverse
Red Rock Canyon and end in Cody.
