The Athabasca River,
which originates at the Columbia Icefield of western Alberta's
Jasper National Park, provides a unique opportunity for visitors to
enjoy some of the park's finest scenery.
Half-day
raft trips beginning immediately below Athabasca Falls are run from
6 to 10 miles (9 to 16 km) downstream. Six to eight sets of moderate
Class II+ rapids leave plenty of calm stretches for guests to view
the inspiring park environment and its varied wildlife.
Everyone
can enjoy Athabasca’s easy waters. Outfitters welcome first-time
rafters and families with children who weigh at least 90 lbs (41 kg)
on paddle raft trips. There are no restrictions on oar-guided trips.
